My Students

Being a teacher at a Title I school resources and funds are limited. My school is located in an impoverished community. My classroom currently does not have any recess resources to play games with while playing outside. Due to bus rules students cannot bring in their personal basketballs, etc.

Our Title I school is located in an impoverished community and is in close proximity to Fort Bragg Military Base.

My school strives to provide the best education experiences with the resources we currently have. I would describe my class as very knowledgable, thirsty, and full of wonder. My students enjoy working and playing together. All students have made outstanding progress in literacy and math, due to their hard work and self-motivation. They have used recess time as a time to get to know one another on another level. They all get along and include each other in all activities. We treat our classroom like a second family. This year I have a child who does not speak English, and my students (who were interested to see how they would be able to communicate with him) got to know him through physical activities, like soccer, which was played with a deflated tether ball.

My Project

My students will be using the basketballs, jump-ropes, kickball, football and ring toss activities to learn about teamwork and cooperation. The mesh ball carrier will store the materials. Students will work together and help each other become better at these physical activities. Using these materials during their recess time will not only promote physical activity and cooperation, but the understanding that we are all intelligent in different areas, such as kinesthetics. Students will gain character by encouraging and helping one another. They will gain a healthy sense of competition. The children will be using different strategies to become successful in learning and competing in the different kinesthetic activities you have funded.

When students are able to play outside it teaches students that everyone has different strengths.

A student who may not be the best reader, can look graceful on the basketball court. Students will learn cooperation and listening skills by taking the time to create strategies to become successful at kinesthetics. Students who are athletically gifted can practice their craft at recess. I am a firm believer that sports can keep students on a path to success if they have proper guidance.
