My Students

"By too much sitting still, the body becomes unhealthy; and soon the mind." --Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. As a 3rd grade teacher, I want my students to learn and enjoy the process of learning. Children are naturally active and want to move around and this is something I would like my students to do.

I teach 22 third grade students in a Title 1 Elementary School, located near a large military town.

My class also includes students who have special academic needs and are full of energy. They are all eager to learn and cannot wait to find out what we will be learning or discussing next. I am a strong believer of allowing my students the opportunity to learn in the way that fits them best. There is no cookie-cutter way for a child to learn. If I have a student who learns best standing or on their knees, then that is the way they will learn in my classroom.

My Project

How many of us have had to sit though a long meeting and just could not sit still? I know it happens to me more often than I would like to admit. Just imagine how an eight-year-old feels trying to sit still during math class or a science lesson. It is just not always the easiest thing to do. By having these chairs in my classroom I hope to allow my students the opportunity to stay focused for longer periods of time since they will be able to move. These chairs also help the students build core strength. By having Wobble Stools and bean bags in my classroom, children will be able to be in small groups working with their teams or on their assignments while still having the movement they need. As a donor, YOU will be allowing the students who have difficulty sitting still in class the chance to move around while still learning!

Having Wobble Stools will allow my students to be engaged during class and focused for longer periods of time.

They will get to decide if they need one that day and for how long. These students will be able to learn and stay on the task at hand. Research has shown how valuable it is to allow students to be able to move while learning.
