My Project

Hello everyone! My name is Ms. Daisy. I am a bilingual speech-language pathologist who provides service to special needs students ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I work alongside two other speech-language pathologists in Brooklyn, New York. We work with students who often have sensory processing sensitivities that affect their ability to learn, socialize and function in a school environment. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have so much to say but have difficulty communicating their wants and needs. We want to help students regulate their sensory needs and help develop their skills to generalize outside of speech. Our students work on communicating using all forms of communication including using a device, using core words ie. want, more, yes/no as well as expanding utterances, maintaining a topic of conversation, and using appropriate social/pragmatic skills. The items we request will be incorporated into our therapy and support our students’ communicative ability. We are requesting books and other toys/games that will make it easier for our students to engage to reach their full potential and reach a diverse range of students. We hope to use these materials to increase their motivation so that they are engaged. Additionally, we are requesting for class dividers (Children’s factory big screen play panel) due to limited space at our school. We share our speech room and to limit distractions from other sessions we hope to use these dividers to help aid with their full participation. With these materials, we can help them achieve their speech goals while keeping them engaged. Thank you very much for your support!
