My Students

Where do I begin when describing my incredible students? I am a preschool speech-language pathologist who works with children ages 3 to 5 years old. My students range from minimally to non-verbal and have varying needs and abilities. Each of my students teaches me something new every day and helps me grow as a speech-language pathologist.

I want nothing more than to provide my students with engaging opportunities to “find their voice” and help them become effective communicators in their everyday life.

Helping these students make their wants and needs to be known will, in turn, boost confidence levels, reduce their frustration, and increase their access to academics.

My Project

I am asking for Proloquo2go, an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) application, for my students. A majority of my special needs students are learning to use AAC so that they may effectively express their wants and needs and participate in academic activities.

“Not being able to speak is NOT the same as not having anything to say.”

With your help my students will trial AAC applications (Proloquo2go) so that they can learn to make their voices heard! I will use the IPad equipment (case, mount, and screen protector) to keep the iPad safe and make it accessible for all students. Finally, I will use the laminating paper and Velcro dots to make low-tech communication boards and other visuals to supplement their learning. I look forward to seeing how much functional and academic communication develops from the use of these incredible tools!
