My Students

I teach second grade in Brooklyn, New York. A majority of my students come from low income families and many of them cannot afford computers in their homes. My students also come from many different countries and their English language skills are limited. My school along with our after school program provide many technology based opportunities for students to strengthen their math and reading skills online and get the support that they are lacking at home. These programs understand that children learn differently and are self paced. My students have a strong desire to learn and eager to succeed.

My Project

An Elmo document camera is an excellent tool to allow students to share their work. Teachers can show off exemplar work or share research materials with the entire class. Elmos can also allow teachers to model close reading strategies and model how to annotate. Teachers can model problem solving strategies, go over homework and class assignments or share student responses. Elmos also allow you to share pictures and visuals which is important when students speak languages other than English. These visuals help them gain a better understanding of what is being taught to them. Sharing student work is important as well!
