I teach 3rd grade advanced students in a socioeconomically challenged area. My students are bright and have a thirst for learning. The introduction of mysteries into the curriculum is a way to actively engage the students in what they are reading. While reading about a mystery students can test the theory and be interactive with their reading. It can also be used across the curriculum, to include reading, writing, mathematics, and science.

My students face limited educational resources. However they live in an era where everything is fast-paced and hands-on. In order to keep up, I have to diversify the instruction.

The infusion of mysteries allows the students to use critical thinking and be active learners. The detective kits will allow the students to do that across the curriculum to make ties to our everyday world. They can analyze, test and evaluate materials.

I can't give the students PlayStation, WII and X-box into the classroom, but I can make the lesson come to life by using hands on interactive materials. The detective kits will help students to make real world connections.
