My Students

I've been teaching for 15+ years. Teaching is hard. That's why I believe that all teachers deserve a dedicated and skilled instructional coach.

Over the past three years, part of my job has been to work with my colleagues to support them to hone their craft.

Together, we've worked on a number of important teaching practices, including how to promote reading, improve literacy skills, provide in-the-moment feedback to students, and encourage students toward more independence. My colleagues are smart and skilled. They're not paid extravagantly, but they appreciate my coaching, and they let me know how crucial my support is.

My Project

I am hoping to attend Elena Aguilar's "Art of Coaching" seminar, a two-day institute for beginning and experienced instructional coaches. Ms. Aguilar is a well-known and respected coach in the San Francisco Bay Area, and after reading her book, I'm inspired to learn more about her philosophy and approach. I'm most interested in the seminar's focus on experiential learning. Over the two days, participants do role plays and then get feedback about their coaching practices. My hope is to use what I learn not just to enhance my own coaching craft but also to share my new knowledge with my fellow instructional coaches.

If it's true that students gain the most from an excellent teacher, it's crucial that each teacher has an excellent instructional coach.

Only through coaching support can teachers thrive and sustain in this challenging work. Thank you for supporting my professional development proposal!
