Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 18 pre-kindergarten students who are all non-English speaking students and are all mostly from low-income families. They all come from homes where the parents, unfortunately, do not speak English and they do not have a role model in order to learn the English language from. My students are energetic little kids who love to learn and are very excited about being in school. However, since my students are all non-English speaking students they need a lot of visuals and hands-on activities in order to learn and make the learning process more meaningful. Also, due to the lack of knowledge from the part of the parents on how to help their children, I feel that my students needs double dosage of educational fun activities in school in order be up to par with their counterparts and succeed in school

My Project

The supplies we receive at the beginning of the school year, such as the primary journals, are not enough to make it to the end of the school year. I want my students to continue learning until the very end of the school year but in order to do this we need more supplies which is very difficult for many of the parents to provide us with. The writing paper at our school either has lines too small for students to write on, or too large, with no space for pictures. We discovered a wonderful product, Mead primary journals, that are PERFECT for us. The lines are color-coded to help us distinguish top, middle, and bottom lines, and provide just enough lines for writing our stories. And a wonderful fact is that half of each page is blank for illustrating a picture, which inspires their story-telling!

We would love a primary journal that will document our growth as writers over the next few weeks of school.

These journals will become a treasured keepsake in the future of when we were just learning how to write.
