My students need language and literacy materials that supports learning the alphabet and their emergent reader skills. The Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs is a great way to build alphabet knowledge and skills.

My Students
I am a first year teacher in Baltimore City at a Title I school-where all students receives a free lunch. Our students communities, include high crimes, drug use, poverty, and homelessness. However, our classroom is designed to be warm and welcoming safe space for students and their families.
Despite the adversities some students and families may face, the Prekindergarten students are full of joy and ambition; ready to learn, play, and grow.
For most of them, this is their very first early learning experience. Seeking new and innovative ways to enhance the Prekindergarten learning experience is a priority. My teaching philosophy is to build a solid early childhood foundation, in preparation for Kindergarten and life skills.
My Project
The Prekindergarten students will identify letters and make their sounds by naming 3D objects using the Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs. Students will use the items throughout our classroom's learning centers that includes: Writing, Art, Literacy Library, Dramatic Play, Blocks, and Science. The learning center activities will be set up for students to practice writing letters using the sentence strips, chart paper, and markers. In addition, students explore play dough sculpting by forming upper and lowercase letter shapes.
With the language and literacy materials, students begin to progress in their emergent reader habits and skills, develop critical thinking skills, and make real world connections from the classroom to home learning.
