My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Brooklyn. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Mandarin, Russian, Uzbek, and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.

Our students are 30 fourth graders in a Title 1 school in Brooklyn, New York.

Our students are English Language Learners. Some of them have various disabilities, such as Speech and Language, Learning Disabilities, and Autism. I try to meet their learning needs and give them the best educational experiences possible and a place to call home. It is an integrated co-teaching classroom, where students with disabilities are mainstreamed with general education students. We also have 2 bilingual students in our room.

Our classroom this year is decorated in bright colors like pink, neon green, purple and blue. We like to keep the classroom bright and vivid colors. I feel children with special needs learn best when you have a warm and welcoming classroom. We are asking for the necessary supplies to get the students started.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that we strive to create. Our classroom library is a place that our students really enjoy-We read aloud to the students every day and then they read independently.

Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read.

All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind- we have children reading on all levels. After the pandemic we feel they need to be able to enjoy reading with titles that interest them. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help our students grow stronger in reading.
