My students are fortunate to have 1 iPod Touch in the classroom. As a teacher, I see SO MANY ways to use this awesome piece of technology to better serve my students! But when there is only 1 item and TWENTY-THREE students, the benefits of the iPod are drastically diminished.
So, here I am with my most ambitious DonorsChoose.org project yet!
:-) My original purpose in requesting the one iPod we currently have in the classroom was to better serve the individual needs of my students so that they could be successful in their learning. Once the iPod arrived, I quickly realized that one was not enough. That statement is not meant to sound selfish -- in my classroom I have 23 students. Every single one of them comes through my classroom door each morning with their own set of strengths and struggles. Some need to work on learning their addition facts while others are working on multiplication. Some students need to enrich their vocabulary while others are practicing sounding out words. Some students are reading books on a 2nd grade level while others are reading 4th grade level books. Etc., etc., etc.!!! This is life within a classroom. Many different needs. Limited resources. One teacher.
My Project
I want to be able to provide the BEST education for my students. This requires me to REALLY get to know every single child in my classroom. I need to know what they do well, what they need more practice with, and what they are really struggling with. Then, I need to tailor my instruction to meet all of those needs. I'll be honest, it's HARD! But it is the job of a teacher and, thankfully, it's a job I love! :-) I am requesting these iPod Touches and headphones so that I am better equipped to meet the needs of each of my students! With these resources, I can easily download apps that will allow my students to work on the skills that THEY need to work on! Students will be able to use the iPods in all subject areas: during our reading, writing, and math workshops! I have done a lot of research on the educational apps that Apple provides and, you know what? There really IS "an app for that!" :-)
I strongly believe that my job is to do what's best for my students.
I would not be requesting these materials if I didn't truly believe they would make a difference. Would you please help me in making learning fun, meaningful, and everlasting for my students?
