My students need materials to stimulate sensory activity and promote learning, including sight & sound tubes, kaliedoscopes, sound puzzles, light panels, a sound machine, lavender aromatherapy, a weighted snuggle wrap, talk blocks, and interactive books.

Help Mrs. Williams

I believe that every child deserves a chance to learn. Help me to unlock the potential in all of my students! I am a first year preschool teacher and I have 40 students in my classroom, 20 in my morning class and 20 in my afternoon class. Half of my students have a diagnosed disability or delay, 73% are English-language-learners and 92% qualify for free or reduced lunch. I currently have 2 children with a diagnosis of Autism and two more who are awaiting diagnosis.

According to Autismspeaks.org, "autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 150 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls. The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown." Many of the students as they begin preschool require a one-on-one assistant which works with them on specific learning and behavior goals. However, often times a regular preschool classroom can be overwhelming for these students due to their sensory needs. Sensory issues are a major concern for children with Autism. Light, sound, and textures are all areas that usually require modifications. Please help supply us with materials that will aid in their adjustment to the classroom.

With your donation we will be able to provide our children with opportunities to help them thrive in the regular classroom and to increase specific skills. The lavender aromatherapy, the Snuggle Wrap, The Light Panel, the Sound machine, and the Sound Eaze Cd's will help us to adjust the environment to make it more suitable to their needs. Materials such as the Talk Blocks, the Photo Cards, the Pull Talk, and the Interactive Books will allow us to focus on language development. The Sorting Bucket, the Sight & Sound Tubes, the Liquid Motion Kaleidoscope, and the Sound Puzzles will help us not only to work on fine motor skills but also concepts such as cause and effect and reasoning skills.

Your help will ensure that my students will be given the best environment and materials possible to ensure learning. Help us to fight this rapidly growing epidemic. It is heart breaking to know that there is a child trapped inside this disorder. By making this donation you will provide us with the materials to help unlock their potential!
