Every Beat Counts: Bands Benefit Students With Disabilities

My Project

My school is a part of our city Public School’s District 75 special education district. The requested materials will help further develop our multisite band which was piloted last school year. The students from the off sites are bussed to our school’s main site for weekly modern band rehearsals with their peers at the main site.

Having an additional drum set will enable two students to practice simultaneously.

This will increase productivity for students learning the drum parts. The acoustic electric guitars would give us the option to amplify sound for rehearsals. Currently, the students are practicing on old acoustic guitars that are functional, but not in the best condition.

The goal is to get brand new instruments into the hands of underserved students with varying disabilities; while exposing them to music across genres and time periods.

This multisite band is a collaborative project among myself and music department colleagues (from the other sites). We are excited to share our skills and knowledge with our students but are in need of your support for building our inventory of instruments. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!
