Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It's getting harder to get kids involved in reading for sustained periods of time, but I've realized that when we are closer together and cozy, they tend to spend more time reading quietly and independently. Being closer together means we have our materials close and we can discuss what we're reading and write about it at the same time in the reach of a hand.

My goal is to get our students to critically analyze text, have discussions, and write about literature and informational texts while still feeling like a kid.

After all, they're 10/11 years old and deserve to remember reading, even if it's informational texts, in a warm way!

This group of students is so special! We are a dual-language class where some students are learning English, and some are learning Spanish. We are a diverse group, and that makes us special (Mexican-American Teacher here!), but what makes these students extra special is how much they take care of each other and always think about each other. If someone brings a snack, they find a way to share it with everyone. It's such a beautiful group.

Thank you so much for funding us and for funding a group filled with love and a teacher excited to get them reading with love!
