My Students

A typical day in my classroom is filled with hands-on activities which include, but are not limited to systemic and experimental investigations. Students are allowed to explore.

My student are typically 11, 12, and 13 years old.

They have a knack for technology, and at times, are able to teach adults and peers how to navigate and understand all that technology offers. My school is a large public school, with an average of 900 students. The school encourages the use of technology to drive the teaching and learning process; however, resources are limited, due to the size of our school.

My Project

The school's Lego Robotics team has always participated, in the New York First Lego League competition. The team has managed, over the years, to qualify for the New York city Finals, held annually, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. This year we won a 3rd place award for programming. We have been using the NXT, which is an older model Lego Mindstorm intelligent Brick, compared to the EV3, the latest Model. This puts us at a disadvantage during competition. The EV3 brick has better bluetooth connectivity, is able to accommodate more sensors and motors, and it hosts a faster processor than its predecessor. Our wish is to obtain an EV3 robot so as to learn the new technology and build the robot for next year's competition.

The donation of an EV3 kit, will expose students to the new technology in Lego robotics.

Students will get the opportunity to be creative in designing and programing a robot, to carry out specific tasks.
