My Project

This project will provide my students with an immersive and engaging experience as we explore the California Gold Rush. My classroom is rich in diversity, with students from all over the world, many of whom are new to the country and experiencing school in the U.S. for the first time. Despite their varied backgrounds, they share a deep love for learning and are eager to actively participate in discovering California’s history.

The materials requested will help bring history to life through hands-on activities and play-based learning.

No matter their language or background, students will be encouraged to explore, collaborate, and imagine life during the Gold Rush era.

Through picture books, students will get a glimpse of what childhood was like during this exciting time in history. They'll learn about the games children played—like jacks—and get to try them out themselves. We'll spark creativity and communication as students design their own wanted posters after learning about boomtowns. To add a fun twist, they’ll enjoy root beer barrel candies and work under the light from lanterns.

To fully immerse in the experience, students will wear mustaches and bandanas, stepping into the shoes of 49ers and miners as they wrap up the day with a mix of learning, laughter, and historical discovery.
