Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

About 80% of my students are in math intervention classes. These students need reinforcement on math concepts that were taught two to three years ago. I provide them as much practice as is available in their eight grade textbook; however the assigned text has limited intervention resources.

My students attend a title one public school where all students receive free meals.The majority of my students come from low-income homes.

With limited resources at home they cannot afford tutoring . While both parents are working, most of my students have limited guidance in completing their math assignments. They are wonderful students who are creative, passionate, open-minded, and eager to acquire mathematical knowledge.

My Project

My students need ink , paper and a printer to print their reports and assignments. My students will be able to print reports that they can submit for extra credit, make-up work to count for any missing assignments, class notes to study for exams, and extra practice activities to raise their grade. Some of my students also come to me during lunch recess for tutoring and having a printer and paper will facilitate their learning process. Our school has limited resources and only allows for printing the minimum requirements to teach the curriculum. Students are usually limited to one workbook for practice. Printing these extra activities for my students will assist me in closing the mathematics achievement gap by providing them opportunities for extra practice.

Providing my students opportunities to improve their grades will allow them to keep persevering.

My students will have the opportunity get more practice on mathematical concepts in which they have difficulty reaching proficiency. As they engage in more practice, their self confidence will improve and they will begin to appreciate mathematics instead of fearing it.
