Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school and all students are eligible for free lunch.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds.

They come from bilingual homes and need more practice in phonemic awareness and phonics to learn essential skills needed for reading.

As part of our daily routine, we have Universal Access Time. During this time, students are engaged in activities that help improve their reading and writing skills. My students enjoy this time and look forward to it every day.

My Project

Universal Access Time allows students to use interactive centers and engaging activities which promote growth in reading and writing. Students also meet in a teacher-led small group which focuses on skills they need to develop further. The Astrobright cardstock will be used to create educational and engaging activities that also last a long time. Many of our activities require students to use dry-erase boards and the Expo dry erase markers have to be replaced often.

My students enjoy playing game boards which focus on specific sound-spelling card patterns.

Soft Dot Dice requires students to use dice to move along the board. We will also use the dice to do interactive math activities.

The Post-it adhesive notes will be used during text-dependent reading lessons. Students will get a chance to annotate the text by using Post-its.
