This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special education class consists of students ranging from preschool to 2nd grade. They are all diverse children that have specific needs and interests, all the while sharing an excitement to come to school every day and participate in the engaging lessons I have planned for them! My students all come from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, and I would like to be able to provide them with the necessary equipment and support that they need. Our school is a large elementary school with a very supportive Special Education team, who want to provide students with the resources to achieve the best, both academically and socially! Unfortunately, our resources are limited and we do not always have the funds to provide all materials.

My Project

My students need an array of differentiated work. As a teacher of students with disabilities, there is never a time where I can use one worksheet or process to ensure that each student understands a topic. Creating work online, which I then print and laminate, allows my students to have materials that they can use multiple times, until they master a skill. I use Velcro along with laminated sheets to create activities where students can finish sentences, spell their names, count objects, match objects by trait or number, and many other useful academic skills. These materials allow me to create tasks and activities that are very specific to each child’s need and preferences.
