Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are learning disabled and in need of materials in order to learn. These children come into school many who are hungry in the morning, their clothing is disheveled, and they are lacking supplies. Many of these children only have opportunities for enrichment and safety inside of the class.

These children are between the ages of 5-7 and many who have just begun their educational career.

These children are primarily diagnosed as having autism and suffer from sensory development delays, cognitive, speech and language development delays, behavioral and emotional delays, physical such as fine and gross motor delays, and delays in adapted living skills. Most of these children come from families that are functioning on a poverty level and may not be able to provide food or supplies for their children. Many of these students do not complete homework, and do not have consistency outside of the classroom. All of these contributing factors affect their ability to learn and function both inside and outside of the classroom. At the end of the day, they are still children who have an eagerness to learn and it would be a disservice not to provide them with that opportunity.

My Project

My students will extremely benefit from these materials because they require repetition when learning new things. Laminating pouches, and velcro can be a teachers best friend when trying to prepare lessons and activities that can be utilized over and over again. These students learn best when the activities presented are adapted to their individual needs. We will be able to create adapted books for them so that they can participate in reading, will benefit from the tactile use of velcro to create touch letters, schedule pieces to provide a smooth transition from one activity to another, and matching activities for students who may not have the fine motor ability to write as a form of answering a question. Students will benefit from an updated calendar and interactive bulletin boards and word walls in the classroom. When you were growing up and in school, wasn't it so much more fun when you were able to move things around rather than just listen to an instructor lecture all day.

By contributing to this project you will help to create a classroom environment that is both educational and enriching.

You will provide these students with the ability to have teaching materials adapted to their individual needs. If you choose this project, please know that your generosity will be greatly appreciated and every material will be fully utilized. If these children can count on us to provide them with the tools they need to succeed, then who can they count on? Thank you
