My Students

Eric Jensen wrote, "One of the most powerful ways to engage students is to let them take charge of their own learning." Help students take charge of the way they learn music and discover their unique talents!

In a melting pot of individuals from all different walks of life, my students attend school seeking stability, safety, and support.

Middle school is a time for self-discovery and many of my students are in survival mode. They seem to find refuge in music and have diverse talents beyond belief. Unfortunately, our music resources have deteriorated within recent years.

As a new teacher, my students have instilled their trust in me. Eager 6th, 7th and 8th graders flood the band room during class, lunch and after school to take charge of their learning experiences. We are constantly working together to help rebuild a safe and creative space for music learning, and celebrating the small victories every step of the way!

My Project

Modern Band has been a big part of my students musical education prior to my arrival at this school. I have started a Bucket Drumming Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble, but would like to revisit Modern Band for my older students.

Drumsticks, Practice Pads, and Capos - Oh MY!

These materials are essential to keeping Modern Band, Bucket Drumming and Guitars an essential part of our classroom learning!

Drumsticks and Capos are necessary to enhance student learning when following Little Kids Rock curriculum for Modern Band. I am looking to buy additional practice pads for my classroom so all students can be involved in drumming at once, while rotating on and off real drums.
