Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Since we are facing an unprecedented health crisis, the school closure has impacted both teachers and students. The sudden shift to virtual learning places burdens not just with the teachers, special educators, and related service providers like me, but mostly on children with disabilities and their families. However, as an educator, I am passionate about helping my students and their families navigate the use of technology and eventually help them become comfortable in the online environment.

Currently, I work individually and in small groups (2-3 students) with my students via Zoom.

They participate with me at least once a week to work on their targeted IEP goals, discuss ways and strategies with them and their parents and just check-in with each other. In addition, I also assign work and activities to my students via Seesaw to reinforce continued learning and generalized the skills they have learned. Despite the hurdles, I am beyond grateful to witness my students' engagement and participation as well as witness the families' support.

My Project

As I continue to work from home and provide distance learning opportunities to all my students, I wanted to make sure that I provide them access to all possible learning opportunities. And, I believe that having the right tools in hand will help me accomplish this goal. The use of an iPad will allow my students to access various speech and language apps so they can continue to work on their targeted IEP goals and the printer would also allow me to print/copy soft and hard materials like worksheets that I can share via screen or send home to provide them multiple practice opportunities.
