My Students

My students are English Learners at the beginning level attending a large, urban high school. Many of their homes lack the resources to improve their English skills, so my students come to school eager to learn English and feel more capable here in their new country.

Finding and affording engaging materials for my young adult English learners attending high school level has been such a challenge!

Sadly, my school district's budget already seems stretched meeting the needs of other student populations.

My Project

Without much in the way of ready-made learning visuals, I've become a pro at creating my own picture flashcards - capturing images on my computer, enlarging them before printing them on cardstock - to help my English Learners understand the week's content vocabulary lesson. How nice it would be to have a set of colorful, engaging Oxford Picture Dictionaries week in and week out - anytime! - for my students to refer to. To me, this resource - as well as an accompanying notebook - is as basic a need as a "number 2" pencil!

Armed with a engaging picture dictionary for each student, I can teach my beginning English Learners better.

It's as simple and necessary as that!
