My Project

Students at our school in Queens, New York have a variety of special needs. Motivated to promote literacy and SEL components in their very first year of art, I'd like to ensure we have all the basic art supplies for success.

At the our School, it is our belief that children of all levels of functioning have great potential to learn if we provide the appropriate path.

With this in mind, art can be a path to unlock potential, to instill confidence, and to communicate effectively and independently.

Materials listed include paper, writing and drawing utensils, organizers, and painting supplies. All materials will be used in a comprehensive yearlong art curriculum that covers the 7 principles of art: line, shape, form, value, space, color, and texture. The curriculum will be based on the Blueprints for the Arts and NYS Visual Arts Standards. In addition, students will work with service providers to address IEP and BIP goals during art, as well as OT skills. A typical art class will include close-looking (VTS), art-making, and literacy and SEL components including sharing and making inferences.
