This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are phenomenal artists who are eager to learn and excited to explore all things messy. We love exploring cultures, artists, and media that allow us to fuse our personal feelings with techniques learned and observed from experts.
My student more than every need additional support that I send into their homes.
Our community is an awesome mix of students in an urban area. With 100% of our population receiving free and/or reduced-price lunch and is a Title I category school in the metro-Atlanta area. Knowing we have families that struggle financially, it is awesome to have local support and online fundraising to help supply my room with art supplies, manipulatives, technology, and resources.
My Project
These materials will be used to create take-home bags of art materials. With the pandemic disrupting the "normal" teaching model, I don't want my students lose opportunities to create and learn through art. The resources will be bundled into individual plastic bags for all 480 students. The art bags will be taken home and then students will access lessons through our online learning platform.
During a historic time, students need access to learn the importance of self-expression to help process these difficult times.
The watercolor supplies will be used to explore a variety of artist and techniques, while the plastic cup will ensure all students have a proper vessel for keeping the brush clean. Students will explore sculpture with Crayola model magic, pipe cleaners, and colored wire. These tools are essential to the mental health of my students to establish an outlet for their feelings and have a "normal" piece of school in their homes.
