Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with a group of 28 ESL students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. My school is a small school in a high-needs, urban area of the South Bronx in New York City.

My students are mainly Spanish-speakers from the Dominican Republic, who have been in the country for fewer than 5 years.

I also have some students from other Spanish-speaking countries, Africa and the Middle East.

The students are very motivated to learn English and to improve academically this year.

My Project

I am seeking funding for everyday classroom supplies that the students in my ENL class are unable to purchase. I am asking for a variety of basic supplies including eighteen Composition Notebooks, a box of Sharpie Markers, 5 packs of Filler Paper, five boxes of Erasers, #2 Pencils, Post-it Sticky Notes, and a box of Pens.

These materials, which include notebooks, erasers, and pencils, will help my students learn by allowing them to actively participate in class every day.

Students will have pencils to write with, notebooks to take notes, folders to organize their work, and I will have the tools to provide them with valuable feedback.

Taking away the worry about being able to afford basic school supplies will let my students focus on their learning and improving their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
