This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine you are new to the country, and are learning a new language for the first time. You are a little scared, but also enthusiastic and eager to learn as much as you possibly can and as quickly as you can!

My amazing students are learning to speak English as a second language.

Our middle school has learners from many different cultural backgrounds and native speakers of many languages besides English. Our students are hard-working, bright, and persevere in spite of the challenges that exist in their daily lives. Most students have limited financial resources, and nearly all of our school qualifies for free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

Students will use the headsets in order to have access to Rosetta Stone, and other similar language acquisition programs. I use many different teaching strategies to meet the needs of my various learners. Working with students in small groups or through stations allows me to target the individual needs of students. In order to make this type of teaching successful, students need a variety of independent and small group activities to work on when they are not working with me. Rosetta Stone is an excellent program that has a proven track record for accelerating English acquisition for newcomer English language learners. Unfortunately, my school doesn't have the resources (the headsets and microphones) for students to truly engage with this program. In order to reap the benefits of Rosetta Stone, students need the proper headsets with microphones.

The students who are learning English as a Second Language gain amazing confidence and abilities through repeated practice with using English.

With these headphones, students will be able to practice their English in a meaningful context, and receive feedback to monitor and track their own growth.
