My Project

This summer I will be stepping in as administrator intern for ESY (extended school year) for ESE students. Extended school year offers students with various intellectual needs to continue learning and making gains towards their learning goals. This is critical to their success as these students need constant repetition and practice in their academics to maintain learning and avoid any regression. To help student engagement, these hands-on items and tools I’m asking for, will help maintain student attention by helping them regulate their emotions and sensory needs.

My goal for this project to meet the needs of my students is to also make them feel comfortable and motivated to do their best by offering a variety of rewards for hard work, as well as tools for our ASD students who will struggle with the change in schedules and teachers they are working with during these weeks.

Safety is a major concern for me as I want to ensure my teachers and students in these ASD units feel safe and calm which many of these tools will aid in. The tools help regulate emotions and sensory outputs to help calm their minds and bodies for learning to take place.

With program budget cuts, I am hoping this will help ensure teachers have tools without spending out of their own pockets.
