This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a title one middle school just a few miles from the Las Vegas strip. I teach approximately 70 students throughout the day (transiency is high so numbers fluctuate often) in a blocked English/Language Arts class.

The students at my school are charismatic, energetic, and intelligent.

They are clever and resilient because they have had to be, growing up in an environment of temptation (sin city). My students learn best through doing (hands on activities) and collaborative problem solving. They love to use technology and enjoy hearing about/learning about real world issues. Getting them to sit and read informational texts has been a challenge because they prefer real world situations/simulations.

My Project

After being out of a physical school building for over at year, our students need opportunities to collaborate in a constructive way. As previously stated, the students prefer to get up, move around, and do things rather than sit in one place.

The locking bank/money bags, locks boxes, hasps, and various locks will be used to create an 'escape room in a bag' experience for the students.

The puzzle-it blank puzzle, cello sheets, flash drives, UV flashlights, and telescoping magnet will be used to help students retrieve creative clues.

Students will have to work together to solve English/Language Arts standards based problems to "escape" the box/bag. The students will need to use 21st century, collaborative, and critical thinking skills. (RI. 4; SL. 1; SL. 6; L. 1; L. 3-4; L.4c; L5)

Once the students "escape" the room, they will debrief and we will discuss ways that they can use these skills in real life situations.
