This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a STEM educator in a school that serves a high number of homeless families, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. With Covid creating its own economic problems, families are having it hard to meet their basic needs.
Even with the economic challenges they face, my students will not let that stop them from learning and growing.
They are excited about technology and learning new things. Their excitement challenges me to create more technology-driven projects to drive their STEM/STEAM education. While they come from varied backgrounds, abilities, and cultures, they stand united in their desire to learn and work together!
My Project
My students had to create a project that will empower their community. They chose to create an art project that teaches Equity through Arts. In celebration of Women's History Month, their project will reflect on gender equity.
"I am inspired by the many young people I have seen mobilizing in my country, gaining confidence in their ideas and in their desire to change the communities they grew up in" ~Sofia Scarlat.
The underline theme is Aspire to Inspire. Equity will enhance their Social emotional learning that we do in our class. Understanding Equity helps students of all ages to better comprehend their emotions, to feel those emotions fully, and demonstrate empathy for others. After they share information about the subject and how females can continue to make a change in the world, they will challenge everyone to create their own work of art that will reflect what was shared. The project requires each person to have a canvas, paint, paintbrushes, and card stock for the silhouette.
