Equity in Access, Technology for All

Help me give my students the access to online tools that they need. As we move from quarantine to back into the building, our way of accessing curriculum has gone digital and our students need access to technology.

My Students

I work in Brooklyn with students who are on the Autism spectrum, have emotional and learning difficulties, behavioral concerns, and speech and language impairments. My goal this year as a member of our special education team, is to make our school the special education model school for our district (and eventually the entire city!). My students are wonderful and fun, full of energy, and eager to learn. We are a magnet school in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and our students come from all five boroughs of New York City creating a diverse and engaging learning environment.

My Project

Our students have been using obsolete technology prior to quarantine. With the shift back into in-person teaching, working technology is a must. And not only working but quality and modern. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) have been disproportionately affected. COVID did not break the system, it exposed a broken, inequitable system. New computers in the classroom will allow my students the access to online curriculum, games, and learning activities that can help them move forward after being out of the classroom for 15 months. This can make a world of difference.
