Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an all-girls public school in NYC. We are a Title I school, which means the vast majority of the students are from low-income families. They are terrific young women. They are passionate about learning, kind and strong. Last year when I had to take a leave of absence for health reasons they reached out to me with jokes and stories. They made care packages to be sent home to me. They are exceptional.

These young women are passionate about learning and using their voices.

They are voracious learners. Remote learning, however, has been a supreme challenge for them. These students have parents that are essential workers, many were sick. Their communities were ravaged by Covid, all while dealing with the murders of people who look like them and the reckoning that has followed. They are stronger than many adults I know.

My Project

The materials listed above will help me create terrific presentations for my students. Last year we had difficulty getting students to log on to their remote devices to take part in classes. Students were disengaged and uninterested. In response, I spent hours putting together interesting presentations with embedded videos, gifs and interactive quizzes. Students loved them. They consistently submitted their work as the lessons were engaging and fun. However, I film my classes in a cluttered room that is dark. These materials will help to change that for my students.
