Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a class of ten 5th Grade students in a 12:1 classroom in Sunset Park, Brooklyn! We are Scientists, Explorers, Mathematicians, Readers, Artists, Writers, and Leaders. Part of our class mission is to always bravely try new things! We are also Multi-Language Learners with multiple disability classifications that include Autism, Speech & Language Impairments, Learning Disability and ADHD.

We love that we are diverse and we celebrate that all our brains have different sensory needs!

We love to sit in our classroom nooks as we read, work in small groups and work independently. We are successful when we are able to spread out on the floor within our classroom. These materials will help to meet our varying sensory needs in our classroom and make our classroom nooks more comfortable to work in! The soft pillows will make it cozy for independent reading and when we need space to take deep calming breaths. The rugs will give us a warm surface for when we want to lay on our bellies as we work. The floor seats will help us to remain attentive in our small groups. In our classroom, Ms. Mesk always says, "We all get what we need and we don't all need the same things!" We may need extra time and tools to be successful, but that's fine with us! We know that when we do hard things our brains grow!
