My Project

My students are intelligent, smart, and full of endless potential! As ESL learners they come to class each day incredibly eager to learn and build their language skills, but like many high schoolers, navigating a new language while learning content can sometimes be challenging for focus and organization. They thrive when given hands-on learning opportunities, visual supports, and a comfortable, supportive environment that reduces language learning anxiety.

The resources in this project will directly address their unique needs and transform our classroom into a more language-rich and accessible space.

Binders will be invaluable for ESL students to organize their learning materials, vocabulary notes, and assignments in a structured way, fostering essential organizational skills in a new language context. The whiteboard will become a dynamic hub for additional visual learning, brainstorming, illustrating concepts, and engaging in collaborative language practice – crucial for language acquisition. The cushions for their chairs and fidget bands will create a flexible and less stressful learning environment, allowing students to move comfortably and reduce anxiety, which can sometimes be heightened when learning in a new language. By promoting comfort and focus, these items will lower affective filters and encourage participation. Finally, these highlighters will be an additional color needed while actively engaging with texts, identify key vocabulary, and break down complex sentences, supporting reading comprehension, and vocabulary development.

My primary goal is to create a truly inclusive and engaging learning environment where every student, including my ESL learners, feels comfortable, supported, and empowered to succeed linguistically and academically. These tools will help me foster independence, collaborative language practice, and language exploration in my classroom. With your support, we can equip these amazing multilingual students with the resources they need to build confidence, reach their full potential, and thrive as they master English and their academic subjects!
