My Students

We are a public school arts program serving 140 NYC DOE students annually from diverse backgrounds with 95% avgerage daily attendance. Students participate in pre-conservatory training, preparing them for film school and life long learning in the arts.

Located in Astoria, Queens, our film program offers students access to complex histories and neighborly stories as subjects for narrative and documentary projects.

Similarly, the film students explore programming throughout the school in dance, drama, and other performing arts studios producing documentaries about school performances and individuals within the school community. Film students are curious and resourceful and often initiate cross-disciplinary projects with English and Social Studies classes, providing leadership in media production as they explore career in film production, screenwriting, photography, public relations, marketing, and journalism.

My Project

Throughout the year, students all grade levels produce several short films outside of the school. These productions require that students check-out equipment from the school. As our resources are extremely limited, equipment needs to be protected at all costs. Up until now we have been using soft cases for student checkouts. The number of these cases is limited and we have run out when multiple grades are in production at the same time. Additionally, some of the equipment has returned damaged or broken due to travel.

We need hard cases to protect the equipment that is being removed from the school premises and to minimize damages.

Replacement and repair of equipment is very costly and is beyond our public school budget. With your help we will be able to protect our equipment. This would enable us to purchase additional equipment with the remaining money in our budget.
