Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am constantly worried about my students because they face so much under their usual circumstances. For my students living in Camden, New Jersey, this often means being overexposed to violence, crime, drug abuse, and unspeakable traumas. But I am also constantly proud of them because if you were to meet them and to get to know them, you would discover that none of those experiences make them who they are. They are so much more than their circumstances. My students remind me every day that young people are resilient and innately good. They also do what they can to be strong, independent, successful students. They remind me of me; and like me, their best lessons will come from exposure and experiencing new things that take them out of their usual circumstances. My students choose to better themselves every day and I work to facilitate that growth. This is why I am asking for help to accomplish that goal.

My Project

Funding this project will offer my students access to professional cameras and drones and other photography equipment. They will learn how to properly and effectively operate professional photography equipment.

They will gain skills that are in constant demand and are evolving with new technology.

Learning the fundamentals will open doors into an industry where my students have a genuine interest, but very little actual exposure. This project will give them that exposure.

Photography equipment in the hands of my students would not only foster their passion for this art, but would have an impact on the overall school culture. My students will have the chance to learn and utilize these skills in a productive way both in and out of school.

In school students would have:

- Run the photo/video/editing club,

- Provide photography for the yearbook, plays and sporting events

- Manage the daily announcement broadcast,

- Use their skills for class projects, presentations,

- Capture and document social events like homecoming, prom and graduation

- And they would be able to do club fundraisers using the equipment

Out of school students could leverage their new skills to:

- Do freelance photography/ videography

- Stock photo creation,

- NFT creations,

- Formal or corporate event photography,

- Drone piloting,

- Promotional content creation (photo or video).
