This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever had trouble finding worthwhile information on a concern of yours? Some of my students had such a problem this year.

These are inner city students whose neighborhood is highly polluted and full of debris.

Some of them wanted to do a meaningful science fair project to help improve their environment. Online resources were often above their reading ability or too diverse to allow them to learn useful information. Our library and my science lab library had no current books on Environmental Issues. Students struggled to find resources they could absorb and guide their project ideas.

My Project

My students need current books on Environmental Science for project research. Students will have new, in depth resources on Environmental issues including examples of work being done to improve conditions in various environments. The "cut and paste" nature of a Google search does not encourage in depth reading like a book. Google searches do not filter information based on reading levels and especially environmental information is often geared toward professional readers; so very confusing and discouraging reading for my students. These new books will allow students to get familiar in depth with their topic and stay engaged in their thinking.

Please help my caring students remain caring for their neighborhood and active learners.

Provide them with the resource books to help their learning. Help them become educated citizens.
