Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my class students are trained to run and operate their own business in the classroom. I take on the role of facilitator while the students are treated as employees to their organization. There is a management team where students must compete for the top level positions. Once the management team is in place, the student employees are broken up into various departments such as sales and marketing, finance, graphic and design, human recourse, etc. As employees in department teams, the students work all year long running their business and competing in a simulated global market. Competitions and workshops throughout the year include the National Business Plan Competition, Ad Futures, Mini Networking Events, Branding, Salesmanship, E-Commerce Website, Catalog, Video, Global Business Challenge, and NYC Trade Show. However, in order to gain competitive advantages they need to experience in real world practices and we lack many of resources needed.

My Project

As part of the simulated business curriculum our students must actively compete in the the Virtual Enterprises International Youth Summit Trade Show in NYC. Participating students in the world-wide network of virtual enterprise exhibit a wide range of products and tout their marketing campaigns from the opening bell until the closing bell. Student employees will race against each other to entice customers with their novelty promotional item giveaways and generate sales, using the electronic clipboards to hold their invoices and calculate prices.

At the trade show students will compete in competitions related to the event such as Best Booth, Best Sales Pitch, and Best Catalog.

Winning takes resources and financing. Even in the virtual world business not function on fair playing field. We are a Title I school and do not have the means to purchase items to even out the playing field but with sponsor donations they can learn to compete competitively and professionally, entice customers, generate sales, and win competitions.
