Help Ms. S.

As a special educator with students from 6-8th grades and a population of 16 students and no aide. My children are very diverse with different needs. My eighth graders are concerned about their math skills and passing benchmarks and being exposed to a regular curriculum. My seventh graders like a challenge and tend to need more hands-on activities and my sixth graders along with many other issues are trying to adjust to middle school math. I would like to expose my children to a variety of ways to make money such as residual and passive income. Teaching them the importance of math in their present and future endeavors. A million dollars would be reasonable as ten. My children need to understand that education is a process and not an event, as well as success is a an ongoing adventure.

Recently, I was assigned to middle school(2008-2009 year). This left me ill-equipped to meet my students accommodations. We must borrow calculators to instruct math. We use the blackboard to approve student work, however this limits our work space. Since using the new math curriculum everything is on line, therefore We must print every time we need something. Without a printer it limits their accessibility to much needed information.

TI 15 calculators are now required for students in our system. With these calculators, I am certain that my entrepreneurs' motivation and self esteem will soar. Presently we are borrowing TI 12 calculators which don't have as many functions. Giving them dry erase boards will allow them to compare and challenge each other as children like to do. Often my children will find some essential information online and it would benefit the class if we are able to print and share it. Given TI 15 calculators will truly help my entrepreneurs to work out equations, percentage, interest, convert and simplify fractions. This will be a new day dawning, the eighth day of the week.

Daily my children must read, interpret and discuss the importance of a good attitude and team playing. However they need to see that support is given beyond my positive words. This equipment will empower them to independence and confidence in their own skills. My children have special needs but they are quite comfortable with who they are and with the essential support success is of their own making. When my eighth graders go to high school I want them to be skilled based and not dependent. These are skills they will need for a lifetime. There should be no limits in life as long as learning continues. This is their life time process.
