Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These books will help me start a bilingual library for future entrepreneurs. Students will be able to read them during FVR (Free Voluntary Reading). They will also be able to check them out. As a Spanish teacher and Advisor for the S.O.L. (Student Organization of Latinos) Club in a Title I performing arts magnet school, I see a need to provide opportunities and resources to inspire my students to think big. This includes starting their own businesses or helping their family business.

These books will provide relevant, inspirational, bilingual resources that will help them develop the knowledge to start and manage their businesses throughout their lives.

A common complaint I hear from students is about relevancy. When are they going to use the things that they are learning in high school? Entrepreneurship is relevant and useful in whatever journey they pursue.

My students have great leadership potential, and all have set the goal of graduating with the Seal of Biliteracy. I have seen incredible growth and a shift in mindset in my students over the last nine years teaching at this school. We have gone from having one of the lowest graduation rates in the state to being recognized as a top magnet school in the US. Your donation will be key in the next step of making school more relevant.
