This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are expected to compete in the global market and know all about technology and leverage it in a way that makes their lives more productive. The challenge lies in the fact that public schools do not have the resources in order to give our students this exposure.

I have the only self-contained 4th grade class in my school.

That means I have students with disabilities and students whose first language is not English combined with general education students. With so many different ability levels, there are many different styles of teaching going on within each lesson. I would love to add a technology aspect within each lesson but with funding so limited and the majority of my students being economically disadvantaged, I need help to procure the equipment.

My Project

Our students today are expected to know how to use technology in order to complete assignments, participate in supplemental education and now to take computer-based standardized tests! How can that be expected when many of the students don't even have access to a computer at home. I am asking for an iPad Air so that I can begin to bring all this new technology into the classroom and into their hands. Children learn by doing and what better way to learn than by actually having to plan, compose and edit their very own movie. Think of the possibilities of bringing a story to life using non-liner editing on the iPad using various applications such as iMovie and iPhoto. I also want them to be able to look up information and expand on the ideas that our static textbooks present to them.

By receiving enough donations to bring this iPad Air into our classroom and into the students hands, it will make all the difference to these kids.

They were so excited to get glow bracelets for Halloween (to help make them visible at night while trick or treating) that I cannot imagine their reaction when I can show them such a wonderful device and be able to tell them that they get to use it. I know that these students will take full advantage of this new technology and learn all they can.
