My Students

My students are wonderful at using the tools they are given to accomplish and tackle tasks, I would love to add some technology into the fold to assist them with being successful, 21st century learners with the skills to go with that title. I teach 6th grade ELA in Bayside, Queens. I love the individual personalities that each of my students brings to the table, as well as the unique perspectives that go along with that. Being a teacher in Queens allows for a highly diverse population of students to bring their own unique flavor and spin on the discussion process. I would love to continue to foster individuality in my students and help them keep growing throughout their middle school adventures!

My Project

In a world of ever increasing amounts of informational texts and short stories, I would like to encourage my students to challenge themselves to explore worlds unseen in a selection of fictional novels that I would like to add to our classroom library. I have a very mixed selection of novels in my classroom that doesn't always appeal to students imaginations. Our day to day lessons in ELA class are centered around shorter, concise texts which are great for analysis, but not so much for the creative aspects of our minds that inspired me to become an English teacher when I was in school. I hope to encourage and increase the stamina of my struggling readers who haven't found that one book which hooks them completely, by introducing them to some of my all time favorite fictional novels.
