I teach science to all grades, K-5, at our small elementary school. The students come to the science lab once a week for 1 hour or more each visit. Our school has a wide range of students in its population. We serve neighborhood children, military families, and students from areas of higher poverty that ride the bus to our school by choice. We have a large percentage of free lunch students and many English language learners. While our elementary classrooms focus on all academic areas, my science lab is dedicated to the enrichment and enjoyment of science.

I am always trying to find new ways to engage the students, introduce new technology, and evaluate what they know in science. With only an hour with each class a week, I have to make sure that every minute of my teaching time has the biggest "bang for the buck." While we do a lot of experiments and inquiry-based learning, it is often difficult to assess their understanding in such a short time frame. I don't like to spend too much time on testing when we could be actively learning science! Still, I would like some sort of tool that will give me some insight on their understanding, but also give me feedback on my own teaching.

The solution? An audience response/voting system! I can think of multiple ways to use this digital equipment to have fun and still be able to evaluate their learning. The system lets me ask a question and have them enter a response. The results show up on my screen and will tell me what percentage of the students are answering correctly! Students can answer anonymously as well, allowing me to simply determine if I need to continue to focus on a concept or if they are ready to move forward.

This Audience Response System will be a big hit in our classroom, as I can set it up as a game show! What a great tool for introducing students to fun technology, helping us learn, and helping me to evaluate my teaching! Your donation toward this project will go a long distance to meet the needs of my students.
