Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The children in my classroom are from a low economic urban area with diverse family backgrounds. My school is an urban school with a free breakfast and lunch program that serves all of our students. My students come together to attend our blended public Montessori School. They are students who desire literary experiences.

My student's primary source for these rich literary experiences is our school.

While some have never been to a public library before my students lack the access to a wide range of literature. Exposure to rich literature will engage them, produce phonemic awareness skills, build vocabulary and schema. My students love all types of literature and get extremely excited when they are read or are reading a book!

My Project

Providing an array of books on CD's for our classroom's listening center will provide an engaging experience for emerging readers.

Listening to stories on CD helps build fluency, vocabulary and nourishes a life long love of reading.

Stories on CD supports early child development by making reading exciting and can be also used as a hook to engage the most hesitant reader along with those who are English language learners.

Providing stories on CD can be an easy resource for my students to use during their own writing. They can connect to characters and story elements and then use these details as inspiration or a starting point when they begin their own writing.

Students with a strong vocabulary base who has been exposed to a multitude of words in their early years have proven to become proficient readers through out their academic career.
