My Students

Our school community is very diverse with a large cultural rainbow which enriches the full experience of the school. We have an ELL population which covers over half of the student population and over a dozen languages spoken. As a classroom teacher, I have a great opportunity to teach my students cross-curricular standards.

So many of our students come from low-income and immigrant families.

Our school is the only exposure they have to enriching activites, in many cases. Our school offers many programs such as art, STEM, music, dance, and theatre, which many children would not receive outside of school. They truly love to come to school every day and I truly love being there to greet them and witness them make new discoveries every day.

My Project

Even though we are in the home stretch and my second graders are starting to think and act like third graders, we still have some work and fun left to do. These supplies will help us close out the school year and make the best of it. My students just love projects! As soon as they know a holiday or celebration is coming they begin to ask what project we are going to do. It warms my heart to give them the chance, no borders, to express themselves artistically. With the paper, markers, and card stock I am requesting we will craft Mother's Day cards, by far the most heartwarming gift a mother receives from her school-aged child.

Our greatest second-grade project is yet to come, and we will celebrate all the learning and experiences we've had as we prepare for third grade and begin our reflection projects.

The vivid colors of the oil pastels and markers will be used to create portraits of themselves as a cover of their second-grade reflection. The chart paper is needed in order for me to model samples of projects so the children follow along with less ambiguity.

Also, in science, we are learning all about plants and we have a flower watercolor project coming up in the next few weeks. For this culminating project, students will use their knowledge of plants to create vibrant images of flowers, labels and describe the jobs of the plant parts. These art supplies will fulfill my students' desires for more creative learning work!
