Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 13 energetic students in a Title One school, where every student receives both free breakfast and lunch. Several of my students are also learning English as a second language. School is a fun and safe place for them to learn, explore and express themselves through art and science.

My 13 energetic kindergarten students love expressing their artistic abilities.

One of their favorite things to do is use paint to show what they have learned through their science and social studies units. Even though each student is asked to create something specific, their personalities come through their work, making each piece unique. They are proud of the work they have done, and are excited to share it with others. When they describe their artwork, they are able to develop more descriptive words. My young students expand their vocabulary tremendously when they get to learn fun and exciting new words. Parents really appreciate when their children come home and use "big" words in their daily language.

My Project

My kindergarten students will be able to paint more often, in a more organized way. The no spill paint cups will be extremely useful as it will be set out for students to use on a daily basis. The carrier and drying rack will help me to keep the art supplies more organized as they complete their work. The students will also be able to create more sculptures with pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and pom poms. The big box will supply my class with a wider variety of art materials, and will give the students more to choose from. They are always in need of glue sticks, as they are used almost every day.

The art supplies will give my students a chance to create more artwork.

As a new teacher with little resources, I am constantly having to borrow materials from other teachers and substitute one thing for another. These materials will keep me from hindering their creativity by limiting how much supplies they can use. After my students produce art, they are able to describe what they have done. It improves their language and confidence as they talk. In turn, they are able to write what they say.
