My Project

Seventh graders at our school are beginning to study Asia in a variety of methods. We'd like to give them authentic experiences with traditional art from regions of Asia. These activities are both hands on and engaging for our students.

The Zen boards and origami projects will serve several important purposes.

They will provide a calming, meditative activity. They allow students to try their hand at painting figures or writing Japanese, Chinese, and Korean calligraphy characters. Origami projects give them a creative outlet along with practicing perseverance in learning a new task. Additionally, the calligraphy and paper folding arts will exercise our middle school students direction-following skills.
