Enlightenment to Greatness: Yoga and Meditation in 4th Grade!

My Students

The students at my school are lively, creative, and have big hearts! I have spent five years serving the students of this district and will transition this year from teaching first grade to fourth! I have watched these students grow over the years and admire their desire to treat each other with respect. The environment they create with their attitudes and hard work brightens the halls and classrooms in our district!

The students of the Sugar-Salem School District are one-of-a-kind, and they make the world a better place every day by continuously working hard, dreaming big, and spreading kindness wherever they go!

As one of the lowest income districts in Idaho, funding for classroom supplies is extremely limited, especially when it comes to non-traditional activities. Limits on funding have done nothing to limit the big dreams of our students! Their determination to learn can and has moved mountains!

My Project

Stress, anxiety, attention deficiencies- these are a few of the most frequently occurring struggles students face every day. Educators can not prevent these struggles from affecting our students, but we can give them valuable tools to cope with these realities for the rest of their lives.

Specifically, I plan to integrate 10 minutes of yoga and 10 minutes of meditation into my 4th-grade classroom: Every-Single-Day.

Providing students with dedicated time and resources to promote mindfulness will leave a lasting impression on the importance of attending to their mental and physical health. Supplying a yoga mat for each student will show respect for our practice, enhance our daily training, and leave a lasting, long-term impression of the fruitful results.

Consistently embedded yoga and meditation instruction for adolescents leads to significant physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth (Garner, 2021). Ten minutes a day is all it takes to reap these vital rewards, and we plan to double that! The skills learned from meditation and yoga will transfer into all aspects of students' lives, and I am excited to facilitate such a small yet powerful practice in my classroom this year! I would love your support in providing a classroom set of yoga mats- something I cannot do on my own. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your consideration in donating to our project.
