This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Being a new ENL travel (push–in) teacher, I have been faced with many challenges. My current biggest challenge is displaying educational content and lessons for my students when I am coming into their classroom. The goal in mind when pushing into students’ classrooms is to support them and bridge educational gaps to help them access grade-level curriculum.

When taking aside a small group to support, the main teacher is instructing the rest of the class as a whole group.

I want to be able to provide the students that I serve with a better way to receive instructional content through a better display. Currently, I display my lessons on a school-issued laptop with a relatively small screen. I’d like to use presentations because it enables me to provide students with a visual support that helps them to derive meaning due to their lack of language ability.

Research has shown that using visual supports with ELL students can help to bridge the gap between their language abilities and grade-level content. It can be difficult at times for students to view such visual content on a small screen. I do my best with printing black-and-white photos or enlarging photos within the slides. However, sometimes, it’s just not enough.

These resources will help me to present high-quality visual displays in color to help support my ELL students in developing their language skills and bridge the curriculum gap. I try to provide every opportunity for my students to learn. I want to give every student I teach access to every and any learning opportunity.
