My Project

I have been given the most amazing job in the world! I have the privilege and the pleasure of teaching STEM to 29 classes of students ranging from Pre-K to 3rd grade totaling approximately 700 students. In the STEM lab, I use a variety of methods, activities, and materials to teach. In today's world, students not only enjoy the use of technology during lessons, but it is crucial that they become proficient in the use of a computer or tablet. I am happy to say that my school has supplied my STEM lab with a class set of tablets, but I have discovered a few issues with using the tablets. Many of the online STEM activities and games won’t work using only a touchscreen tablet; they require a keyboard. The second issue is that these tablets do not have a USB port for a standard keyboard to plug into.

My wonderful students really need wireless, Bluetooth keyboards so they can perform online STEM activities and games.

The touch screen feature on our tablet does not work for many STEM games. Another benefit of using a keyboard with a tablet is that younger students really need to have a physical keyboard when typing numbers for math problems. Also, the older students need to practice typing sentences and paragraphs on a keyboard. Typing paragraphs using a touch screen is very difficult.

It is so important to me that I use engaging, fun activities with my students in the STEM lab. I want them to have all of the materials they need to prepare them for their current grade level and the skills that they will need in the future.
